Les Quatre Nations Map 1310o
The site here was used by the Germans to excavate gravel for their many projects involving concrete. The site does not exist on maps produced before the war. It was possibly easier to start a new quarry on this site that to transport gravel from further afield. During the occupation the Todt Org was short of transport, but labor was reasonably plentiful, so it would have been a good idea to start quarrying operations here. The concrete gantry structure would have been used to haul aggregate from the quarry floor to waiting transport. The lake caused by the excavations is now stocked with fish and used by anglers from a private fishing club. |
