The Atlantik Wall In Normandy

Stp16 Hameau du Nord Map 1310O

This was originally the site of an old French Fort called Fort Pongibaud. Built for the same reason, to keep the English away.

This was a late inclusion by the Germans and covered a lot of beach frontage, over 700 meters. The R621 shelter carries the coat of arms of the builders and not the regiment who were based there (4.Kp./Bau.Pi.Btl.59) Many of the smaller constructions have go and some that remain show signs of American artillery fire as the progressed up the beach.
